چکیده
Using flight measurements conducted between altitudes of 700 and 3000 m, this work characterizes atmospheric turbulence investigates the effects an increase in level on laminar–turbulent transition taking place pressure side a laminar airfoil. Flight conditions ranging from calm to moderately turbulent natural driven by Tollmien–Schlichting waves are considered. The inflow first characterized reported using single two-point statistics. Moreover, it is shown how characteristic parameters can be estimated intensity. Then, sensitivity location investigated. results show low level, when latter not associated with significant variations gradient. Similar investigations also wind tunnel where increased active grid change observed increasing level. differences response freestream postulated attributable probability density distributions velocity fluctuations.

Stochastic Modeling of Laminar-turbulent Transition
Stochastic versions of stability equations are developed in order to develop integrated models of transition and turbulence and to understand the effects of uncertain initial conditions on disturbance growth. Stochastic forms of the resonant triad equations, a high Reynolds number asymptotic theory, and the parabolized stability equations are developed.
متن کاملLaminar-turbulent transition process in pulsatile flow.
A controlled ex-vivo study of a simple, sinusoidally oscillating flow in a rigid, constant-area, smooth tube, has produced significant insight into the laminar-turbulent transition phenomenon. The development of turbulence was studied by analyzing the dynamic characteristics of the transition process; i.e., the velocity, growth rate, and intermittency which describe the generation and propagati...
متن کاملStatistical Prediction of Laminar-turbulent Transition
Stochastic versions of stability equations are considered as a means to develop integrated models of transition and turbulence. Two types of stochastic models are considered: probability density function evolution equations for stability mode amplitudes, and Langevin models based on representative stability theories including the resonant triad model and the parabolized stability equations. The...
متن کاملLaminar-to-turbulent transition in pulsatile flow through a stenosis.
Laminar-to-turbulent transition in pulsatile flow through a stenosis is studied by means of three-dimensional numerical simulations. The flow transition is associated with the occurrence of a flow instability initiating in the stenosis region. The instability is manifested by a three-dimensional symmetry-breaking and leads to asymmetric separation and intense swirling motion downstream of the s...
